Where can I get support?
As a young person and as an Emergency Services Cadet, you have several services available to you to help you with any issue you may have. Some of these services are listed below.
Cadet Related Issues
These are any issues that have impacted on you as a result of attending cadets or as a result of something that has happened at a cadet activity. You can:
- Talk to your local cadet coordinator or another adult member who may be able to assist you; or
- Contact the Youth Development Officer in your region for assistance with the matter - contact details are in the back of this booklet.
If you feel that you need further support regarding a cadet related issue you are able to access the Department’s EMbrace Program. Either face-to-face or telephone counselling can be organised through the EMbrace program. To contact someone from EMbrace:
- Phone 1300 309 508, or
- Email at emqembrace@emergency.qld.gov.au
Personal Issues
As a young person, there are many issues that affect your life and it can help to share these concerns with someone you trust, no matter how big or how small the problem may seem.
Some of the things you can do include:
- Talk to a trusted adult: this may be your mum or dad, another relative, school teacher, adult member with cadets or a friend's parent. Sometimes talking about it can help you to sort it out or point you in the right direction for further assistance.
- Refer to the 'Where can I get more information?' section of this booklet. Many of these websites also have some great fact sheets if you just want to get some more information on the issue.
- Phone Counselling: call Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for access to their free, confidential counselling service.
- Online Counselling: log on to www.kidshelp.com.au. Go to: Get Help> Get Counselling> Web Counselling. This service is only available certain hours so check website for current web counselling times.
Not sure?
If you are not sure whether your issue is cadet related or personal, then either phone the EMbrace Program on 1300 309 508 or email emqembrace@emergency.qld.gov.au and we will point you in the right direction to get help. Alternatively, you can always phone your regional Youth Development Officer (see back of booklet for contact details) who may also be able to assist with services available in your local area.
