Purpose, Goals, and Values

Our Purpose

In order to become well-rounded adults, young people need access to opportunities to develop personal qualities and skills, such as initiative, leadership, teamwork, self-confidence and a sense of place in their community.

The purpose of the Emergency Services Cadet Program is to introduce Queensland’s young people to different forms of emergency services related training programs with the aim of better equipping them for community life.

Our Mission

To support Queensland communities by providing youth development opportunities for Queensland’s young people through a volunteer emergency services skills development program.

Our Objectives

To develop:

Life skills and encourage participation in local communities;
Personal strengths, including self-confidence, initiative, leadership and teamwork;
Skills and knowledge to enhance community safety; and
A potential recruitment pool.

Our Values

Providing Queensland’s young people with access to a structured program that offers nationally recognised training in a safe environment;
Providing a practical approach in learning to assist in the effective development of young people’s skills;
Putting the community needs first;
Focusing on the needs of our clients;
Ensuring the highest level of professional standards and ethical conduct;
Valuing and developing our people as our most important asset;
Promoting teamwork; and
Respecting and valuing the contributions of others.

Our Goals

To provide challenging accredited programs to young people which are recognised by all levels of the community and government;
To have an increased membership, which reflects the social and cultural diversity of the community;
To carefully select and train our adult members to a high standard;
To be recognised by the community as being responsive to community issues including issues relating to young people;
To be consulted on policies regarding young people’s issues;
To have the community recognise, support and value the role of the Emergency Services Cadet Program and its activities;
To have adequate human, physical and financial resources which are used to the best advantage of the program and the community; and
To provide adequate opportunities for our members to participate in activities.
