Cairns
Starting in 1996, Cairns Emergency Services Cadets have gone from strength to strength. Cairns has gone from having just 15 Cadets and 3 adult leaders in January 2001, to an astonishing 58 Cadets and 27 adult leaders as of June 2004. Cairns Emergency Services Cadets is now the second largest Cadet group in Queensland. The only factor holding them back from even greater growth, being infrastructure to house all of the year levels during training.
Being such a large group, Cairns Cadets take a very structured approach to their theory and practical training with great results. Cairns Cadets have developed very strong partnerships with Emergency Services groups, as well as other key stake holders, especially Education.
Cairns Emergency Services Cadets train weekly on Thursday nights 7:15 PM to 9:15 PM.
Cairns Cadet Camp 2004
In November the Cairns Cadet Group enjoyed a two day camp at Lake Tinaroo on the Atherton Tablelands, where they camped out, tested their skills and had some great fun.
27 Cadets from the group and 8 Adult Leaders enjoyed a weekend of activities designed to challenge the Cadets emergency response skills as well as provide a heap of fun.
The Cadets enjoyed participating in activities such as flood boat operation, navigation, tracking, swimming, team building, bush walking and in recreation time, many fun games were available.
The Cairns Cadets were able to enjoy the cool waters of Lake Tinaroo when things got too hot.

Cadets Assist Cairns City Council
Cadets from the emergency Services Cadet Program in Cairns were recently presented with a certificate of appreciation from Cairns City Council for assisting with gathering information from the public in a local government survey.
The three Cadets were responsible for calling members from the general public and asking them a series of questions.
They had to write down and compile the persons responses.
This information was then used by Cairns City Council to assist with Animal Welfare Policy.

Cadets Visit Coast Guard and Helicopter Rescue Service
Recently, Cairns Cadet group were given an opportunity to see how the Cairns Volunteer Coast Guard and 510 Helicopter rescue operate. Cairns Cadets were able to go on an excursion to the Coast Guard which included a boat ride in the Coast Guard’s rescue vessel, as well as an in-depth lesson on Marine Rescue. Following this, the Cadets were then taken to the 510 rescue helicopter where they were once again, given a tour of operations.
