Abergowrie

The Emergency Service Cadet program is offered to students of Abergowrie College to participate in however the group is not a YAP program and is sponsored by Queensland Fire & Rescue Service.  Abergowrie College supports the Emergency Services cadet group providing them with facilities to train in, transport and other services they may require.

Abergowrie College is a Catholic Boys' Secondary College situated in the Herbert River valley, west of Ingham in North Queensland.  The College has been in operation since 1933 when it began life as St Teresa's Agricultural College.

The current enrolment is 240 boys who come from all around Queensland, Northern Territory, and Western Australia as well as Papua New Guinea and other overseas countries.  Most students coming in year 8 are staying on through to year 12.  There is a 95% success rate with students going on to work, Tafe or University.

Cadets are encouraged to participate in community events such as Ingham Festival, Maraka Festival and ANZAC day as well as attending camps and excursions.

The Abergowrie Emergency Services Cadet group currently has 15 members with three Adult Leaders to guide them. Abergowrie Cadets meet regularly on a Wednesday night to train.  Training nights consist of but are not limited to learning about fieldcraft, knot tying, land search, radios, work in a team and first aid.
