Charters Towers
The Emergency Services Cadet group from Charters Towers is sponsored by the local State Emergency Service group. Most training takes place in the State Emergency Service training shed which is heritage listed as it was established to support many of the local military bases located in the Charters Towers area during World War II. Charters Towers is an historical landmark in rural north Queensland.
The city of Charters Towers was built in 1872 to support gold mining activities and is located 130 kilometres on the Flinders Highway south west of Townsville. The business centre supports the growing mining and beef industry sectors with excellent retail, manufacturing, transport and mining services.
Charters Towers Emergency Services Cadet group consists of 20 members with a good mixture of male and female cadets. Group training is held every Thursday night and encourages Cadet Leaders to assist in preparing and conducting training sessions.
Cadet training involves all aspects of the Emergency Services and most of the Cadets are involved with sport and other community groups in town.
