Hughenden
Hughenden is located on the fully bitumen sealed Flinders Highway, 518 kilometres east of Mt Isa, 386 kilometres south west of Townsville and is situated on the banks of Queensland’s longest river, the Flinders River.
Hughenden and the surrounding districts have a dry, tropical climate. Temperatures can range from a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius in the hotter months of October to February to a minimum of minus 2 degrees Celsius during the cooler months of May to August. The average rainfall is 340mm – 450mm falling mostly between December and March, although some variations are experienced.
Consisting of 33 members ranging in age from 13 to 18 years, the Hughenden Cadet Group has the largest amount of memberships in the Northern Region with a good mixture of male and female members. The group trains on Thursday nights and actively participates in their local community events such as Australia Day ceremonies, George Challenge, their annual show and ANZAC day.
The group places a large emphasis on team building and leadership activities. Many of the Adult Leaders have graduated from Cadets and show continued interest in the program as well as taking on responsible leadership roles.
