The Local Cadet Advisory Committee
The Local Cadet Advisory Committee consists of representatives of the community to enable the community to participate in managing and monitoring the cadet group that it represents.
The Emergency Services Cadet Program understands the importance of such a committee and no Cadet Group will be formed or will continue to operate without a Local Cadet Advisory Committee.
Composition of the Committee
The Local Cadet Advisory Committee is made up of a broad cross-section of the community. This is to ensure the Cadet Group reflects community needs.
Membership of the committee can include, but should not be limited to:
- Local Government;
- Queensland Fire and Rescue Service [QFRS];
- Queensland Ambulance Service [QAS];
- State Emergency Service [SES];
- Queensland Police Service;
- High School;
- Community;
- Local Cadet Coordinator (when appointed);
- Cadet member/s; and
- A representative of the Emergency Management Queensland District Office [EMQ] is to be appointed as an Advisor to the Committee.
In addition to the above, the committee may also include representatives from other organisations, based on the requirements at a local level. It is strongly recommended that where appropriate a representative from Volunteer Marine Rescue Association Qld, Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association Qld, Surf Life Saving Queensland and Royal Life Saving Qld be invited to become a member of the Local Cadet Advisory Committee.
Community groups with an interest in the well being of young people in their community are also encouraged to participate in the committee.
It is important that a variety of organisations, representative in each area, be encouraged to participate.
Responsibilities of the Committee
The roles/responsibilities of the Local Cadet Advisory Committee are to:
- Ensure the effective operation of the Cadet Group through a monitoring and approval process;
- Participate in the development of strategies designed to maintain a high level of interest;
- Promote an adequate level of service to the Cadet Group from all agencies of the Department;
- Support the planning requirements for an effective and sustainable Cadet Group;
- Provide the Local Cadet Coordinator with community support and encouragement;
