Assessment
Only a qualified workplace assessor is able to determine a cadet as competent against a unit of competence. For each unit of competence cadets will be required to complete at least three assessment tasks.
Assessment against the Public Safety Training Package is OPTIONAL .
Training Principles
The aim of training within the Emergency Services Cadet Program is:
- To develop the qualities of leadership, self-reliance and initiative;
- To encourage cadets to participate in community service;
- To develop a skills base in emergency services related practical skills such as basic rescue and first aid;
- To develop a more aware and safer community; and
- To develop an interest in emergency services.
Training Philosophy
The training philosophy within the Emergency Services Cadet Program is:
- Cadet training has the primary purpose of developing young people through experiential learning;
- The planning and conduct of training is to be performed primarily by all adult instructors and monitored by the Local Cadet Coordinator;
- Training may be of an adventurous nature and should include bushcraft, navigation, communications, first aid and basic safety;
- Skills relating to basic rescue are to be promoted; and
- Where necessary, specialised training will be conducted by the relevant emergency service or service provider.
