Statements, Certificates and Awards Available for Cadets and Cadet Groups
Certificate II in Public Safety and Statement of Attainment
The Emergency Services Cadet Program offers nationally recognised qualifications from the Public Safety Training Package [PUAOO]. The following qualifications are currently offered to Emergency Services Cadets:
- Certificate II in Public Safety [SES Rescue]; and
- Certificate II in Public Safety [SES Operations.
When a cadet has completed the required learning and assessment associated with the range of training programs within the qualification and supervised workplace experience, they cay apply for the respective qualification.
A Statement of Attainment will be issued to cadets on completion of each unit of competence. When all required units of competence are completed cadets can apply for the Certificate II.
Statement of Participation
A Statement of Participation is issued to every cadet at the completion of each year. These Statements are to recognise that cadets have participated in the Cadet Program during the year.
The Statement of Participation will include:
- information about the Emergency Services Cadet Program and what opportunities it provides to the cadet;
- the year the cadet will complete the Emergency Services Cadet Program (first year, second year etc.); and
- the Cadet Group name and year.
Statement of Completion
A Statement of Completion is issued to a cadet who is leaving the Group after finishing the program.
For a cadet to be eligible to obtain a Statement of Completion, the cadet will be required to:
- Attend at least 80% of training activities for each year during their time as a cadet;
- Attend at least one weekend camp each year;
- Attain a standard of proficiency in training by completion of the core subjects as shown on the certificate; and
- Have completed training as a cadet.
Cadets and Adult members are encouraged to keep any awards and certificates they have been awarded in their resume for future reference when seeking employment.
Certificate of Recognition for exceptional service
A Certificate of Recognition can be awarded to cadets and adult members for exceptional service. Certificate’s of Recognition are an occasional award and are only awarded to those who show exceptional service that goes above and beyond normal service.
The Certificates may recognise one or more of the following categories:
Adult Members
- Outstanding commitment to the Program; or
- Special achievements approved by the District Manager.
Cadet Members
- Outstanding commitment to the Program;
- Special achievements approved by the District Manager; or
- Exceptional peer leadership.
Cadets are encouraged to keep Statements and Certificates in their resume as they are nationally recognised skills. Cadets who have been issued with a Statement of Attainment may have the details recorded on their Senior School Certificate. Cadets should discuss this with their school administration.
H.S. Christie Award
The H.S. Christie Award for Excellence is issued every year and recognises Cadet Group proficiency, addressing the following criteria:
- Overall effectiveness of the cadet group;
- Group Development;
- Training Management;
- Stores Control;
- Community Involvement; and
- Youth Development.
Cadet Achievement Awards
The Cadet Achievement Awards are annual awards that recognise the outstanding achievements of individual cadets. Individual cadets can be nominated for a Cadet Achievement Award in 1 of the following 4 categories:
- Youth Community Service Category;
- Youth Community Safety Category;
- Youth Leadership Category;
- Youth Inspiration Category.
Adult Member Awards
The Adult Member Award is an annual award that recognises the special contribution or achievement that a volunteer adult member has made during their career with the Emergency Services Cadet Program. Examples of this may include an adult member who has:
- Attended all cadet activities;
- Demonstrated a significant contribution to youth development;
- Completed a significant task for the group to ‘make life easier’ for other members;
- Achieved special recognition for the group;
- Stood out from other members through his or her compassion, support, commitment, diligence or administration skills.
Australia Day Achievement Medallions
The Australia Day Achievement Medallions are a proud part of a Department of Emergency Services tradition of recognising excellence and distinguished service to those people who achieve best practice in their particular field of endeavour.
In selecting nominees for the Australia Day Achievement Medallion, particular emphasis should be placed on identifying cadets or adult leaders who have provided:
- A significant contribution either to, or in support of, the delivery of emergency services in Queensland over the past 12 months; and/or
- A significant commitment to the provision of outstanding service within their respective Division over the past 12 months.
