Community Safety - Get Prepared
Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) is committed to community safety in Queensland through working with local governments, other agencies and communities to help them make informed decisions and actions when it comes to natural disaster preparedness and response. An informed community is a prepared community.
There are simple important steps that you and your family can take to prepare for natural disasters. One of those steps is to have an emergency kit. See our sidebar on the left of this page for guidance on developing such a kit.
How prepared are you? Queensland is vulnerable to many natural and man-made disasters. Below is a list of the three most common natural disasters faced in Queensland, along with handy tips on how you can prepare and react.
Download the Red Alert! digital stories – a collection of disaster stories made by young people across Queensland about cyclone, bushfire, severe storm and flood.
It is also worthwhile to familiarise yourself with the alert sound – STANDARD EMERGENCY WARNING SIGNAL (SEWS) - used to alert Queenslanders when disasters loom or a major emergency happens. Click here for further information.
