SES busy after State-wide storms

10/25/2005

SES Volunteers around the State have been busy overnight, responding to thunderstorms that hit communities around Queensland.

Most of the damage was on the Gold Coast, where the SES received more than 60 calls for assistance, mainly in the Oxenford and Helensvale areas. It is believed most of the damage was caused by the storm that hit the Gold Coast a few weeks ago. SES Volunteers on the Gold Coast completed 30 of the jobs last night and more SES teams will continue to assist residents today.

There were seven calls for SES assistance in the Brisbane region, with five at Eight Mile Plains, one at Belmont, and one at Mackenzie. The Belmont job was cause by a lightning strike, which damaged roof tiles and the ceiling, and all other calls were for water damage and cracked roof tiles.

Logan SES volunteers responded to four calls to assist with water damage and cracked roof tiles.

Stanthorpe SES volunteers responded to four calls to assist with water damage caused by gutters blocked by pea-sized hail.

Gatton SES volunteers responded to three calls for assistance with broken windows caused by golf ball sized hail.
