Weather Update North Coast Region - May 31 @ 1pm
05/31/2008
SES crews throughout the North Coast and Central Coast regions are urging residents to ensure they have made appropriate preparations for strong winds and heavy rain.
Crews have had a quieter day after working into Friday night and returned this morning to complete 75 tasks for the day.
Most jobs were recorded in Hervey Bay (39) and Bundaberg (8) with the remainder scattered throughout the region.
There has only been six requests for assistance this morning on the North Coast – particularly around Coolum and Caloundra (tarping and downed trees) – and no requests for assistance in Central Region.
The SES is encouraging residents to follow a few simple steps that can help prepare your family and property:
• Repair any loose roof tiles, eaves and roof screws, clear your gutters and downpipes and trim overhanging tree branches if safe to do so.
• Secure animals and loose items around your yard.
• Park vehicles under shelter or secure with tarpaulins or blankets.
• Prepare an emergency kit for your family and keep a list of emergency contact numbers handy.
• Stayed tuned to your local radio station for storm warnings and advice.
For assistance from the State Emergency Service (SES) call 132 500 or if it is a life-threatening situation contact Triple Zero.
