Burnett Heads - storm gust

Emergency services are continuing to respond to reports of a severe storm gust which occurred in the Burnett Heads area, near Bundaberg, around 6pm this evening. The full extent of the damage is unknown at this stage. Initial reports suggest trees and power lines in the area are down, several homes have lost their roofs and a considerable number of homes have been extensively damage. There is no confirmation at this stage as to whether anyone has been injured. As at 8pm, the SES had received approximately 13 requests for assistance. Heavy rainfall continues to impact the area, making it vital for people to exercise extreme caution, and avoid venturing outside. Under no circumstances should people drive, walk, swim or ride through floodwaters. If residents require flood assistance they should contact the SES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, which includes vehicles trapped in floodwater, always dial triple zero (000).
