Smoke from Magnetic Island National Park

12/06/2012

The Department of Community Safety has been advised:

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting a series of small planned burns around Magnetic Island over the next few weeks.

Weather conditions are ideal to undertake the low intensity fires in the national park to achieve conserve and maintaining healthy woodlands.

The fires will take place when conditions are suitable at various locations over the coming fortnight.

Smoke may be seen coming from the southwest corner of Horseshoe Bay, Mt Paulma area behind Nelly Bay and Arcadia, and on the far western side of the island.
