The State Emergency Service(SES) forms a part of Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) which
is a Division of the Queensland Governments Department of Emergency Services (DES).
State Government and Local Government maintain an important partnership in assisting SES volunteers to provide a valuable volunteer emergency service to their local communities.
The SES is a volunteer organisation and designed to help Queensland communities in times of emergency and disaster. Each year the SES receives thousands of calls for assistance.
SES volunteers care about their communities and are not paid for the great work that they do.
EMQ/SES Unit provides support to SES volunteer Units, Groups and members throughout the State.
The EMQ/SES Unit provides this support through the provision of the following services:
- Volunteer and Cadet Management;
- Resource and Asset Management;
- Education and Training;
- Communications; and
- Public Awareness and Public Relations.

To contribute to a safer and more supportive community by providing an effective, community-focused volunteer emergency service.
Our Goals:
- Help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from an event or a disaster;
- Ensure SES Groups are well trained and equipped to allow them to meet their core functions and operational responsibilities; and
- Continue to engage, develop and support our communities.

- Other emergency services; and
- Community.
EMQ provides management and support services for the SES including developing policies to help the SES perform its functions effectively and efficiently. Services are delivered through a team of headquarters staff located at the Emergency Services Complex in Kedron, Brisbane with Regional and Area Office staff throughout the State.
