Queensland Volunteer Marine Rescue Committee (QVMRC)
The QVMRC Mission is "To contribute to the improvement of marine safety by providing quality specialist advice to Government".
Charter of Operations
The Queensland Volunteer Marine Rescue Committee shall:
- provide advice to the Queensland Government and voluntary organisations involved in marine rescue activities;
- investigate and recommend on matters referred to the Committee; and
- ensure suitable guidelines are available for the standardisation of an integrated Queensland statutory service/volunteer marine rescue capability.
QVMRC Composition
The QVMRC is comprised of two representatives from:
- Volunteer Marine Rescue Association of Queensland (VMRAQ);
- Australian Volunteer Coast Guard (AVCG);
- Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ);
- Queensland Police Service (QPS);
- Queensland State Emergency Service (QSES);
and one representative from:
- Queensland Transport (Maritime Division); and
- Australian Communications Authority.
Customers and key stakeholders
The Queensland Volunteer Marine Rescue Committee's customers and key stakeholders include bathers, boating people, recreational and professional fishermen, general public, government agencies, inland water/river users, other marine environment users and volunteer marine rescue volunteers.
The Queensland Volunteer Marine Rescue Committee achieves the desired community outcomes through attainment of the five goals identified below.
- To ensure volunteer marine rescue and safety services meet Community needs;
- To improve the standards of volunteer marine rescue and safety services;
- To represent the collective interests of organisations involved in VMR;
- To assist in improving participation / membership levels within VMR organisations;
- To improve levels of cooperation and coordination between VMR organisations involved in the delivery of volunteer marine rescue and safety services.
The Executive Director Counter Disaster and Rescue Services, Department of Emergency Services, or his/her nominee chairs the QVMRC.
The Secretary is the Manager, Volunteer Marine Rescue Services.
