BUNDABERG District Local Controller Bev Thompson is one of Queensland's leading SES volunteers. Bev's achievements were highlighted by her appointment to the State Government's Emergency Services Advisory Council. ESAC advises the Emergency Services Minister on measures to improve the delivery of ambulance, fire, SES, and Emergency Management Queensland to the community; and provides valuable input into policy development. She has been involved in a number of major SES activations over the years, including Cyclone Fran, major flooding, Bucca tornado, the Childers Palace backpacker hostel fire and numerous search and rescue efforts. Last year, Bev received a 10-year Meritorious Service Award and also won the National Community Link Award for developing a program designed to educate primary school children in disaster awareness.
